Pirates

We went to see the Pirates Sequel today. I thought it was okay. But in the middle of the movie when they were on a beach with jungle behind it I started to miss Survivor. Then I started missing Lost. So, I guess I just miss TV. I'm ready for fall.

The Self Check Out Saga Continues......

Tonight I went to my friendly neighborhood grocery store with my three kids. When I was BEING checked out I observed the following conversation:

Checker One: Thanks for bagging for me. Those baggers are always disappearing.

Checker Two: Where's __Insert bagger name here-I dont' remember his name_____

Checker One: That's what I mean they always disappear.

Checker Three: So?......

Checker One: So. It's extra work for us.

Checker One to Checker Two-too softly for Checker Three to hear: What? Does she like bagging her own groceries?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM................ That's my point exactly. As a store, actually as a retail industry-they are encouraging me to CHECK myself out, BAG my own groceries while keeping my kids under complete control after they've been subjected to a boring errand for the last 20 minutes. HMMMMM, No. To quote Checker One, "It's extra work for us."

I will never.

Tags

So Jack has this thing with tags. He hates them. If he realizes there is a tag in his clothes he immediately starts demanding that it be removed. Sometimes I have to get scissors to remove them. Loredana also went through a "tag phase". For a long time I knew which clothes were hers even inside out because none of them had tags.

Last week when it was storming at like 2am Jack came into our bed. This is usually a very bad thing because when he gets in bed with you he only wants to talk to you. He's two years old. His ability to have a lengthy in depth discussion is very limited and it was the middle of the night. Anyway, he was talking about this and that and then he realized that my pillow had a tag on it. Since I didn't want to look for scissors, I told him not to worry about it and turned my pillow the other way so the bothersome tag would not be near him.

Tonight I took the tag off the blanket he sleeps with. Then I started thinking that tags are actually annoying, but I have just gotten used to them. Loredana has gotten used to them and I'm sure Jack will too. BUT.......in a world as stressful and distracting as ours, we just don't need an additional constant itch at the back of our necks.

The Love Boat

When Kristi and I were little we would always do these dance shows in the living room. We had an area rug that was the "stage" and the linoleum tile in the dining room was the audience. We always pretended that we were performing on the Love Boat Stage. It went with another game we played called "Making Class" which was basically school, but also on the Love Boat. It is a fond memory-doing those dance shows on the Love Boat to "Mousercise" and some Sean Cassidy album we loved.

Today, Alex and Noah came over for part of the day. Alex and Emma we doing their own dance shows-complete with costumes they designed from the dress up box. It was fun to watch. I could almost hear "Da Do Ron Ron"!

TV

I like TV as much as the next person. And when Survivor and American Idol are both on, I watch a little too much TV. I like to have a show or two to watch each week

HOWEVER, I find it disturbing that it seems that EVERYWHERE I go there are TVs. I first noticed it a few years ago at the Galleria mall. They have this little play area in the food court. So the kids won't be "bored" they also have TVs on showing kid channels. Why do kids need TV if they are at the mall? Walmart also has TVs advertising things as you shop. First of all you can't even hear yourself think in Walmart so it seems like a waste of electricity running TVs. Second, they are up so high that you have to bend your neck to even see them. The only way I usually notice those TVs is when they are on static and I wonder where that annoying extra noise is coming from. Monday we took the kids bowling. Guess what-they have TV playing so when it's not your turn you have something to do. I think it's ridiculous and sad. I think we should be cheering each other on and talking to each other when it's not our turn. I think we, as a society,l need to realize that being in the same room with someone, sitting right next to someone doing something passive and completely un-interactive is not spending time together; is not nurturing a relationship with each other. Relationships are so undervalued in our society. It's an unfortunate and sad state.
