Stupid Starbucks

I am taking a class this week at Valley High School, which is on Eastern near Sahara. I'm not really familiar with that part of town. Yesterday on my way there I decided to skip dinner and just get a Starbucks coffee. I thought that would be easy enough. In my part of town there is a Starbucks about every mile-most of the time with a drive thru. As I drove down Eastern I started to get the feeling that I wasn't going to find a Starbucks. So I turned on Charleston. I drove for a couple of miles and decided that if I didn't find a Starbucks by Maryland Parkway, I'd turn there. Surely there would be a Starbucks close to UNLV. As it turned out, I did find one on Maryland Parkway. No drive thru though.

On that journey I decided that Starbucks is a social class thing. Eastern, Charleston and Maryland Parkway are busy streets, VERY busy. The traffic was crazy because the old bumpy roads are only two lanes and the lights are irregularly spaced. I did notice that in place of all the Starbucks stores that should have been there there were Check Cashed and Payday Loan stores. The ironic thing is that Starbucks pays decent for an entry level job, with benefits even if you only work part time. The people who need Payday Loans would benefit from a higher wage job, but they'd have to take the bus to the suburbs in order to work for Starbucks. The rich get richer I guess..........

Jack's favorite adjective right now is "stupid". Not my favorite word for kids. Tonight he was talking about the dream he had two weeks ago. He's been talking about this "bad guy" dream ever since. Tonight, he was telling me about the "stupid bad guy" in his "stupid dream". Cute even though he was kid cussing.
